Philosophy

Software-first Healthcare

Software-first healthcare is the principle of building the intelligence layer in software, treating every device — whether a phone, a wearable or a certified medical instrument — as a data source rather than as something to be manufactured.

Why hardware constrains

Hardware sets the ceiling on how fast health software can reach people. It must be manufactured, certified, shipped, installed, maintained and eventually replaced. Each step adds cost, delay and risk, and every one of them scales linearly with the number of people served.

Software does not carry that arithmetic. A module that works for one care home can work for a hundred without a single object being moved.

The sensing layer already exists

The premise of software-first is that the sensors are largely already deployed. Phones, tablets, cameras and wearables are present in homes and care settings in enormous numbers. The scarce resource is not sensing — it is the layer that turns scattered sensing into understanding.

Where a certified clinical measurement is genuinely required, it should come from a certified device. Software-first does not mean pretending a camera is a spirometer; it means connecting to the spirometer, and adding the longitudinal layer that the instrument was never designed to provide.

Hardware makers as partners

This reframes the relationship. A device manufacturer is not a competitor to a software-first platform: the platform makes their instrument more valuable by placing its readings in a continuous record and in the context of everything else about the person.

It also keeps responsibilities where they belong. The certified instrument produces the measurement, with the regulatory obligations that entails. The platform holds the understanding.

How INDACO.ONE approaches it

INDACO.ONE develops no proprietary hardware. Nothing to buy, ship, install or maintain. Every device becomes a data source through open standards, and every hardware company becomes an ecosystem partner.
